How'll The Grinch Steal Christmas
Tumblr media
For my Christmas drawing, I decided to draw out one of my all-time favorite Xmas stories: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" I always watch the classic animated special made by Chuck Jones every month of December, I feel like it isn't Christmas without getting my Grinch fix.
I've noticed that the already iconic Xmas icon has received a significant amount of more attention this year. With a Walmart commercial promoting some Grinch merchandise, a video game, and even a new sequel book to the original story. I feel like these are all just ways to milk the property for their respective companies, which ironically enough goes against the whole moral of the story!
But nonetheless, it's giving the loveable rotten grump some recognition. And the one positive outcome of it all is having people(like myself) come back to the original classic story, and the Chuck Jones animated short.
Update: I have a post discussing my thoughts on the recent Grinch Walmart commercial for anyone interested: My Thoughts on the Grinch Walmart Commercial by TheJollyOrangeArtist on DeviantArt

You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch
youtube
So this Christmas Season, I thought I would feature some of my Christmas music and videos.
First up, we have the original ''You're A Mean One, Mr. Grich'', from the classic animated feature staring Boris Karloff, ''How the Grinch Stole Christmas''.

It's a shame that Boris and Ted had to clash in the same poll. Before Boris, Ted Cassidy was my first favourite actor and Lurch was my comfort character. In fact, without the Addams Family, I doubt I ever would've got into Frankenstein and Boris Karloff.
Here’s some propaganda for both, but mainly Boris:

Propaganda
Ted Cassidy - (The Addams Family) - No text propaganda
Boris Karloff - (Thriller, The Veil, Colonel March of Scotland Yard) - Boris Karloff may be mostly remembered for his horror movies, but he also had a substantial television career! Lots of people know him today from his Thriller series, in which introduced each episode as himself, but also acted in three episodes. In the 1950s, he introduced and acted in "The Veil", a series that never aired, but can be watched on YouTube today. He also starred as the titular character in "colonel March of Scotland Yard" and guest starred on several TV shows throughout the 1950s and 60s, such as "The Name of the Game", "I Spy", famously in drag in "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E" and many others. He was even awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for television! Boris Karloff is my all-time favourite actor, he was magnificent and so versatile, and by all accounts was a lovely person to work with and know in real life.

On the 7th day of Christmas, Ant-Man gave to you:
A little story about me as a kid. Actually, it's sorta a Christmas story and sorta a Halloween story.
I love both holidays very very much. Like they're pretty well tied for first place, but I guess Christmas is in first place by like *almost pinches fingers together* that much.
Anyway, I love both holidays, and I decided when I was like really little, maybe like 5 or 6, that I would combine both holidays into one. How? Simple enough for a little munchkin like me. I would go as the Grinch for Halloween.
I love the 1966 cartoon. To me, that's the best version of the story. It's definitely a tradition for me to watch it every Christmas season. Heck, I can recite the whole cartoon by memory! Songs and all!
And you're in luck, gang. My momma still has a photo of me when I dressed as the Grinch for Halloween. I don't know why it's black and white though. It just is. See below!

The Witcher saved the life of this tiny peasant girl, Whose world, by the looks of it, was starting to swirl. At this man, Nimue-Lou Who stared with big eyes, Fighting excitement, euphoria, and all of her surprise:
"That mare is called Roach. All your horses bear that name. Because of the Witcher Geralt, you are one and the same. I can't believe it. How can it be? Seriously, how is it so? Geralt of Rivia, as is known, died a hundred years ago."
That white-haired Witcher wiped his face with his sleeve, And in his simple explanation, he did not deceive:
"Witchers, it seems, will always be necessary, To appear where needed, a great burden we carry. Forever rushing to appear with sword in hand, Against Evil and Darkness, I return to take a stand."
Little Nimue did not understand, not one bit. "How is it possible? It must be some kind of trick."
"A future novice of Aretuza," the man said with a smile, May not ask questions like that, at least not for a while. Here we must part, I see that your destiny lies ahead. As for me, it is true no Witcher ever died in his bed. So the story goes on, the tale never ends. Back to Avalon I go, to see all of my friends."
And the Witcher cast a Sign, one she did not know, Called the Somne, putting her asleep amidst the snow. She soon awoke to a woman, bidding her near, And to Dorian they rode, a path now very clear.
A strange dream I had, she thought to herself. Like a fairy tale indeed, like a book from a shelf. Perhaps, the story goes on, the story never ends.
And here where something ended, something else begins.

this might be kinda controversial, but I think the 2000 Jim Carrey “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is the best grinch movie.

Remember… then the Whos, young and old, will sit down to a feast. And they'll feast, and they'll feast. And they'll feast, feast, feast, feast! They'll feast on Who pudding and rare Who roast beast. Aw, roast beast is a feast I can't stand in the least! — Mr. Grinch, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, 1966
Christmas costume party? 🤷🏻‍♂️ If only Laoghaire were that sweet…

The Grinch: 4-DVD Collection
Tumblr media
After rewatching the Grinch musical on Peacock, I thought I'd share this: a meme of all four versions (the cartoon, the live-action film, the CGI film, and the televised live musical) being released together in a four-DVD collection. Wouldn't that be something to have all versions of the story together?
I know WB owns the rights to the cartoon, but just recently, they co-released the entire Rankin-Bass Christmas collection on DVD with Universal, so why not do the same with the Grinch adaptations? I'm not even joking about Rankin-Bass. Look it up on Google or Amazon.
Also, maybe for the heck of it, they could include Halloween is Grinch Night and The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat as special bonus features.
